The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee has carried the Jeep image into new territory with Hemi-power, all independent suspension and a combination of luxury and toughness unmatched in American SUVs. What could be better than that for the Penfound Design team vehicle?

Of course, as neat as the stock Grand Cherokee is, it needed a few tweaks to set it apart from the crowd. That’s where Penfound Design and project partners Goodyear Tire, Wheel Pros, KMC Wheels, PPG Industries, Inc., Presta Products and Jeep parts and accessories got involved.

Standard features on the 2011 Laredo X Jeep Grand Cherokee include a chrome grill and rear treatment, bright side and rear moldings, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Lurking under the Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat paint, however, a smoother, cleaner, meaner Jeep was waiting to come out. That’s where Penfound Design came in.

The smooth and clean plan started with the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s trim level. The standard chrome grill with vertical slots was swapped out for a Jeep Overland model grill with the ‘cross-hatch’ grill pattern of the lower bumper valance. This new chrome grill, as well as the chrome rear taillight panel were prepped for PPG Industries, Inc. paint by Brian Stitt and his staff at B.S. Creations, Mansfield, Ohio, Presta Products were used for buffing and polishing. The wide body side molding, hood and tailgate and other miscellaneous chrome trim were also removed.

With the trim level sorted out, the street fighter, stealthy look was taken to the wheels and tires as well, with dramatic results. The answer for the Grand Cherokee comes from Goodyear Tire and Wheel Pros. If 18-inch wheels are good for the Grand Cherokee, 20s are better, so KMC Widow #672 wheels were chosen for the PD Jeep. Matched to these black-centered, smooth-lipped wheels are Goodyear Fortera HL 265/50/20 luxury/performance radials.

Wheels and tires were installed by A&C Tire Center, Amherst, Ohio. The before, install and after changes are shown below.
